RECOMMENDED MOTION:

SUMMARY:

The EAA and the City of San Antonio staff work collaboratively in support of the City’s Edwards Aquifer Protection Program (EAPP). Since the inception of this program in 2000, the City has protected almost 150,000 acres of land on the Edwards Aquifer recharge and contributing zones. Beginning in 2017, these staffs have been working together to incorporate they EAA’s water quality rules into the acquisition of new properties by requiring perspective conservation easement owners to be compliant with both CoSA and EAA standards. EAA staff has worked with City staff to ensure an understanding of the EAA’s abandoned well, small container, spill reporting, and above-ground-storage tank (AST) rules in an effort to help them identify potential compliance issues in the future. This collaboration has resulted in a plugged well and a scheduled removal of an AST. The goal of this process is to ensure that all new conservation easements are compliant with both the City’s conservation easement restrictions and the EAA rules, maximizing the protection of the properties.

Brent Doty, Aquifer Protection Supervisor, will provide the board an overview of accomplishments to date.
