SUMMARY:

 

The purpose of this agenda item is for the Aquifer Management Plannning Committee to receive a report from EAA staff on a white paper titled "Re-Conceptualizing the EAA Recharge Program: Staff Recommendations to Optimize and Protect the Aquifer."  Today, enhancing aquifer recharge is only one of a multitude of ongoing activities to optimize the yield and protect the long-term sustainability of the aquifer.  The EAA Recharge Program has evolved into a comprehensive program including aquifer water quality protection in addition to strategies to enhance the yield of the aquifer.  The attached white paper communicates the updated scope and priorities of the EAA Recharge Program by providing background information on the aquifer, summarizing supply strategies and by making staff recommendations for the program’s future.   This white papaer is the culmination of a number of staff presentations on this topic over the preceding few months.

 

Staff's recommendations regarding the vision, purpose, and role of the EAA's Recharge Program, will be incorporated into future strategic planning.

This agenda item supports the EAA's policy direction as set forth in the EAA 2016-20 Strategic Plan:  Goal C, Identify and Address Recharge Initiatives for the Edwards Aquifer.
