STAFF RECOMMENDED MOTION:

None.  This item is for informational purposes only.

SUMMARY:

The purpose of this agenda item is for the R&T Committee to receive a report from EAA staff on the objectives and general scope of work for the Wastewater Discharge Vulnerability Assessment study regarding wastewater discharges in the contributing and recharge zones of the Edwards Aquifer. TCEQ and counties regulate wastewater discharges from wastewater treatment plants, Texas Land Application Permits, on-site sewage facilities, and septic tanks. The purpose of this study is to investigate the fate of potential contaminants from these various forms of wastewater discharges onto the contributing zone that may reach the recharge zone. EAA staff will collect data such as water levels, water quality, soil quality, and tracer tests in the contributing and recharge zones of the Edwards Aquifer to characterize the vulnerability of groundwater.  This multi-year work will also contribute information towards a better understanding of the relationship between the Trinity and Edwards aquifers.

STRATEGIC PLAN REFERENCE:

This agenda item supports the EAA's policy direction as set forth in the EAA 2016-20 Strategic Plan:  Goal D. Prevent the Pollution of the Aquifer & Goal E. Conduct Research that Enhances Understanding and Effective Management of the Aquifer.
